An allergy-inspired story
Rodolphe Diotel, a colorist allergic to traditional hair dyes, founded the company in Vannes (Brittany) in 2014 with two chemists: “science needed to evolve, not hairdressers to change jobs.” A European pioneer in Balayage Minéral® and ultra-natural mineral color.
Brittany Nacre
Signature active ingredient selected from the dunes of Mentor Beach (Gulf of Morbihan) and processed into a powder: remineralizes, restructures, and stimulates cell renewal. Combined with kelp, Guérande salt, and certified organic dye plants.
Measurable commitments
ECOCERT COSMOS, COSMEBIO charter, 1% for the Planet, Made in France, vegan, gluten-free; at least 22% organic active ingredients and 40% Breton active ingredients; accessories made from bioplastic and natural wood; Ectoin, Dandrilys, Arcolys, AnaGain, and Keraguard patents.
Three color ranges
Mineral Colours (gentle oxidation, free from ammonia, MEA, PEG, EDTA, resorcinol, PPD, and PTD), Organic Infused Colors and Greenleaf (100% organic plant-based), and Rainbow (high-naturalness oxidation, free from PPD and resorcinol). The hairdresser chooses according to the desired result and the client's sensitivity.

Traditional hair color (the point of comparison)

Oxidation dyes · works in the cortex

Conventional hair colors use oxidation dyes (PPD/PTD, resorcinol) and direct dyes, with an alkaline agent (ammonia or derivatives such as MEA) that opens the cuticle. The dyes travel down to the cortex, where they gradually break down the natural pigment and replace it with the shade chosen on the swatch chart. Because the cuticle has been opened, it must then be closed again to hold the color in: that is the job of post-color treatments, which usually coat the fiber with a film of silicones or polymers.

Mineral color · Mineral Colours

Hybrid · about 5% chemistry · color sets within the cuticle layer

Mineral Colours contains no alkaline agent (no ammonia, no MEA). Arginine makes the hair swell slightly, just enough for the color to settle inside the cuticle layer without reaching the cortex. The natural pigment is therefore not destroyed: it is covered, like a “permanent make-up”. It is a hybrid product: it keeps a small share of chemistry (about 5%) needed to develop the color.

0 alkaline agentno ammonia or MEA: the fiber is not opened
Arginineslight swelling of the hair so the color sets in the cuticle
≈ 5%chemistry, needed to develop the color
Natural pigmentkept and covered, not broken down
Explain to the client: on salt-and-pepper hair, white strands come out slightly brighter than darker strands after coloring. This soft contrast creates a gentle highlight effect, close to a subtle balayage — it is an intended result, not a lack of coverage.
Client who is sensitized or allergic to chemical hair color: Rodolphe & Co recommends always doing a patch test before applying Mineral Colours, since the product still contains oxidation dyes.

Plant-based color · Organic Infused Colors

100% natural · indigo and henna · binds to the surface keratin

Organic Infused Colors is 100% natural, with no chemical additives, and is made mainly of indigo and henna pigments. When water is added, the hair swells slightly at the surface and the plant pigments attach to the keratin of the outer layer (a very small amount slips between the scales). The inside of the hair is not altered: the fiber is fully respected.

Combining systems in the same appointment

Fully compatible · applied at the same time · no rinsing in between

Rodolphe & Co color systems are fully compatible: they can be applied at the same time, without rinsing between techniques, for completely customized color that still respects the fiber.

  1. Mineral on the roots, plant-based on the lengths: regrowth coverage and natural upkeep of the lengths.
  2. Plant-based on the roots, mineral reflects on the ends.
  3. Organic Infused Colors as a gloss to add warm reflects.
  4. Mineral on the roots, plant-based on the ends and highlights with Balayage Minéral® (Mineral Whitener): the full combination of all three worlds.

Content adapted from the course “Les différents systèmes de colorations” of the Rodolphe&Co Académie (rodolphe-academie.fr, 5 lessons, videos in French). Detailed protocols for each system are in the technical sheets below.

Mineral Colours · mineral color and Nacre

The product

75 mL tubes · 33 shades · professionals only · 100% gray coverage

Mineral Colours is a highly natural oxidative hair color, not a plant-based hair color: this is the first thing to explain to the client. It develops its pigments with an eco-activator, but its base is mineral and plant-based: pure extracts of Brittany Mother of Pearl (harvested in the Gulf of Morbihan, then processed into powder: remineralizes, restructures and stimulates cell renewal), arginine, shea butter, castor, macadamia and sesame oils, phytic acid, green tea, aloe, and a complex of certified ORGANIC dye plants (cassia, amla, henna, ziziphus, eucalyptus, turmeric, chamomile) that provides the reflects. Guaranteed free of ammonia, MEA (ethanolamine), PEG, EDTA, resorcinol, PPD and PTD. The oxidative dyes present are toluene-2,5-diamine sulfate, 4-chlororesorcinol, p-aminophenol and 2,4-diaminophenoxyethanol: the complete INCI list appears in the Novyco 2025-2026 catalog (pp. 15-16), along with the mineral vs. traditional comparison table.

Golden rule: the tube / eco-activator ratio is not specified in the brochure, catalog or on the professional website (“for the mixing ratio, follow the instructions for use”). It is provided during training by the educator: follow the tube instructions and do not apply another brand’s 1 + 1½ ratio.

Web information: the processing time of “45 min – 1 h” and the statement that the color “sets at the level of the first layers of scales” come from the article “What is mineral hair color?” on rodolphe-co.com (consumer-facing page), not from Novyco documents.

Reading the shade chart

Digit before the dot = base (level) · after the dot = reflect · three pure pigments

The bases range from 3 (dark brown) to 9 (very light blonde), plus base 11 Mother of Pearl, a “clear tone” gloss for lightened hair. The reflect follows the dot: a doubled digit (.77, .88) indicates an intense reflect. The DEEP series groups the natural .0 shades (3.0 to 9.0): these are the core coverage shades. The best-selling shades in Quebec are 6.77, 7.0, 4.77, 6.0 and 6.3.

The pure pigments Ruby (red), Lazurite (blue) and Gold (yellow) are added to a shade to correct or intensify it: blue neutralizes orange tones, red adds warmth, and yellow brightens a golden reflect. Dose according to your training.

The bases and reflects come from the Novyco catalog (p. 15); the detailed list of shades by reflect has been reconstructed from the Mineral Introductory Offer and the product sheet on rodolphe-co.com/pro (32 references online, 33 in the catalog). The physical shade chart (code ROM255) remains the reference.

Hybrid eco-activators

15 · 25 · 35 vol. · 1,000 mL · urea peroxide + hydrogen peroxide

The brand's worldwide exclusive: each activator combines two agents, urea peroxide (derived from white nettle according to the website) and hydrogen peroxide, in a base of nacre, hydrolyzed wheat protein, phytic acid and glycerin. Urea peroxide controls the volume, extends the development time and improves gentleness. The activators provide support for coverage on white hair with Mineral Colours coloring and serve as the oxidizer for Balayage Minéral®. Free from sulfates, PPD, PTD, resorcinol, ammonia, PEG, EDTA, MEA and DEA.

Activator Mineral Colours coloring Mineral Whitener (Balayage Minéral®) Key points
15 vol. Yes: the go-to activator for mineral colors Yes: gentle lightening, the slowest Deposit, tone-on-tone, toning and white hair coverage
25 vol. Yes (Novyco catalog) Yes: intermediate lightening Resistant hair or a high percentage of white hair; the pro website recommends it more for Whitener
35 vol. No Yes: maximum lightening (up to 6 levels) Never with a color tube
Rodolphe & Co does not offer 40 vol., and you must never use another brand's developer: urea peroxide is part of the formula. Keep closed and store in a cool place.

In-salon coloring protocol

From consultation to retail · Skin Protech + required
  1. Consultation: natural base, percentage of white hair, history (if hair has already been colored with plant-based dye, do a strand test). Choose a base + reflect; have a pure pigment on hand if correction is needed.
  2. Protection: apply Skin Protech + (75 mL, 99% natural) along the hairline, around the face and on the ears. Wear an apron and a stain-resistant gown.
  3. Mixing: Mineral Colours tube + 15 vol. eco-activator (25 vol. for better coverage on resistant white hair), following the ratio in the instructions. Use a bioplastic bowl and whisk, never metal.
  4. Application: apply to the roots first during regrowth, then to the lengths if needed. Indicative processing time: 45 min to 1 h; check halfway through on white hair.
  5. Rinsing: emulsify, rinse thoroughly, wipe off Skin Protech +, then shampoo and condition with Cheveux Colorés (Keraguard® patent, acidic pH that closes the cuticles).
  6. Retail: Cheveux Colorés shampoo and conditioner, 250 mL; Soin Hydratant, 150 mL; Blond Ultime if the client has lightened hair.
Prescription examples
Natural level 6 base, 50% gray, target warm brown: 6.77 with 15 vol. eco-activator; if the gray hair is resistant, switch to 25 vol. or support with 6.0 DEEP as advised in the training.
Level 7 base, unwanted orange tones after balayage: tone with 11.11 Mother of Pearl or 11.22, 15 vol. eco-activator, monitor visually.
Level 4 base, target a more intense 4.6 red: add a touch of Pure Mineral Ruby to 4.6 (amount specified in the training).

The exact mixing ratios do not appear in any Novyco document: these examples illustrate the logic of the shade chart and should be validated with the educator before use in the salon.

The product

500 g powder · code ROMW500 · up to 6 levels · no ammonia or sodium persulfate

The world’s first lightener designed to be used with urea peroxide. The powder combines sodium silicate, potassium persulfate (a mineral: the lightening agent, not to be confused with sodium persulfate, which is not in the formula), kaolin (white clay), mineral silica, diamond powder and guar gums, with a naturally derived fragrance. The result: gentle lift, up to 6 levels depending on the natural base and hair condition, with no ammonia or derivatives. The catalog describes it as “a revolution in the world of blonde.”

Maximum lift (up to 6 levels) 35 vol. Fastest and strongest Dark base, highlights under a cap (code ROMNRC); monitor closely

The catalog only states that “the number of lightening shades depends on the strength of the activator”; the number of levels achieved with each volume is not specified in the materials and should be confirmed during Mineral Balayage Techniques training.

Mineral Balayage® and toning protocol

Skin Protech + · foils · monitoring · 11 toner · Blond Ultime
  1. Prepare: apply Skin Protech + around the hairline; use a bioplastic bowl and whisk. Mix 1 part Mineral Whitener + 2 parts eco-activator at 15, 25, or 35 vol., depending on the desired level.
  2. Apply using freehand balayage or foils, avoiding scalp saturation with 35 vol.
  3. Monitor visually and regularly until the desired level of lightening is reached; urea peroxide extends the development time, so there is no fixed processing time.
  4. Rinse thoroughly and shampoo gently.
  5. Tone as needed with Mineral Colours 11.11 Mother of Pearl (ash), 11.22 (iridescent), or 11.33 (golden), and the 15 vol. eco-activator.
  6. Maintenance: Blond Ultime shampoo and conditioner (Iris Impérial, silicone-free) to neutralize unwanted tones, protect against UV rays, and moisturize bleached hair.
Mineral color does not lighten hair: if the client wants to go from a level 5 to an 8, use Whitener first, then Mineral Colours as a toner. And as with any lightening powder, a strand test is essential on hair previously colored with henna.

Organic Infused Colors is professional plant-based hair color: 100% organic coloring powders combined with HydroGel for color that deeply nourishes the scalp. 0% peroxide, ammonia, PPD, PTD, heavy metals, resorcinol, synthetic dyes, sodium picramate, or GMOs; vegan, fair trade, and produced using solar energy. Greenleaf Botanique (2019) offers the same 11 shades in 100 g kits so clients can maintain their color between appointments. The brand’s website specifies that the color sets on the outermost layers of the hair cuticle: it does not penetrate the hair fiber and never lightens.

Preparation and water temperature

1 powder + 1 HydroGel + 2 hot water · 25 g of powder per 100 mL of liquid · 20 / 40 / 60 °C

The official recipe, identical for Infused Colors and Greenleaf: 1 dose of powder + 1 dose of HydroGel + 2 doses of hot water, in a non-metallic bowl, whisked until it has a yogurt-like texture. HydroGel (Guérande salt, baking soda, silicate) helps the color take on white hair and last over time. Water temperature influences the highlight: the hotter it is, the lighter and warmer the result.

The longer the processing time, the more intense and covering the result. You cannot “correct” a plant-based color with an oxidizer on the same day: on hair already colored with plant-based dye, any treatment with mineral color or Whitener requires a strand test.

Web data: the dosage “25 g of powder = 100 mL of hot water or HydroGel,” the 20 / 40 / 60 °C rule, the “60 to 90 min” processing time, and “Pre-coloration for 30 min at 60 °C” come from the Greenleaf Botanique product sheet on rodolphe-co.com/pro and the Greenleaf retailer listing (greenweez). The Novyco catalog only gives the 1 + 1 + 2 recipe and the chart below.

Processing chart by natural base

The official chart cross-references the client's natural base with the target shade. “Pre-coloration then …” means two applications: a Pre-coloration treatment (pure organic henna, 100 g kit), rinsed out, then the color. When two applications are needed, HydroGel is included in the Pre-coloration mixture.

Application, rinsing, and care

Pure Lawsonia pre-coloration · stain-resistant cape · Greenleaf Mineral Shampoo · Greenleaf Conditioner
  1. Diagnosis: base, percentage of gray hair, chemical history. More than 30% gray hair and a dark shade (Black, Walnut, Deep Chestnut, Brown) = pre-coloration required.
  2. Protect: Skin Protech + around the hairline, stain-resistant coloring cape, gloves.
  3. Pre-coloration (if needed): pure organic henna + HydroGel + water at 60 °C, leave on for 30 min, rinse.
  4. Color: 1 powder + 1 HydroGel + 2 hot water at the temperature specified in the chart; apply generously to clean, damp hair, roots first and then lengths, and cover to retain heat.
  5. Leave on according to the chart (15 to 120 min). Longer processing time = more coverage and greater intensity.
  6. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until the water runs clear, without using a strong shampoo; at the salon, finish with the Color-Treated Hair treatment.
  7. Maintenance: GreenColor Mineral Shampoo (50 g powder, Cosmos Natural, one teaspoon, leave on for 2-3 min) and GreenColor Conditioner (250 mL, 5 min, silicone-free); 100 g Greenleaf kit for home use.
A plant-based color containing indigo continues to develop after rinsing: the final shade should be assessed over the following days, not at the wash station. Let the client know.

HydroGel is a COSMOS Organic-certified treatment base, developed and made in the brand's laboratories in Brittany: water, glycerin, baking soda, Guérande salt (maris sal), sodium and magnesium silicate, xanthan gum, citric acid, benzyl alcohol. The brochure describes it as an “exclusive saline solution”: its mineral active ingredients promote the uptake of plant pigments on white hair; the website describes it as an “algo-marine” gel combining 70% coloring solution and 30% treatment. It is also used to boost certain in-salon treatments.

For even distribution over the scalp, application with the Dermo-Specific Serum Applicator is recommended.

Treatment protocol and applicator

Diagnosis · comb applicator · pairing with D-Tox and shampoo
  1. Scalp diagnosis: hair loss, premature gray hair, or dandruff; use only one serum at a time.
  2. Fill the applicator: remove the silicone cap, pour in the daily dose without exceeding the recommended amount, and close tightly.
  3. Apply: hold by the body, press the comb teeth against the scalp and slide; the serum is dispensed automatically and evenly. Leave in, morning and evening.
  4. Support the treatment: Soothing Anti-Dandruff Shampoo with Dermo-Sensitive; use Scrub D-Tox as a 10-minute poultice twice a month to unclog the scalp before applying the serum; Hair Force supplements (organic Breton seaweed, hemp oil, vitamins, and minerals) with Dermo-Chute.
  5. Follow the treatment durations: Dermo-Grey for 3 to 5 months continuously; Dermo-Chute and Dermo-Sensitive for 1 month, renewable twice, never more than two seasons per year.
Sediment at the bottom of the bottle is not a defect: it’s the hallmark of a 100% natural formula with no stabilizer. Show it to the client before they discover it at home.
