A cool tone that “shifts” or white hair that appears poorly covered is almost always a problem with the volume or processing time, not the shade. Reading the numbering system and color wheel Level / primary tone, secondary tone: 7/43 = golden copper blonde The number before the slash is the level (1 black to 11 very light blonde). The first number after the slash is the dominant tone, the second the secondary tone: 7/43 is a copper blonde with a hint of gold, 7/34 a golden blonde with a hint of copper. A doubled number (/00, /11, /22, /44) indicates an intense tone. Natural /0 shades are slightly warm; intense natural /00 shades are neutral: this is the “deep” base to choose for thick, resistant or very white hair. The 2024 color wheel positions each shade according to its pigment base: yellow, orange, red, violet, blue, green. Neighboring shades blend; opposites neutralize each other (violet against yellow, blue against orange, green against red). This is why /8 matte (green base) corrects unwanted red tones in dark bases, and /2 iridescent (violet base) tones down gold tones on blondes. Rinse thoroughly. Towel-dry: detangle with a wide-tooth comb; hair should be damp, not wet. Divide into 3 or 4 large sections. Measure: short hair ½ oz, medium-length hair ½ to ¾ oz, long hair ¾ to 1 oz. Apply: use a brush, working in 6 to 12 mm sections. Dab 6 mm from the scalp, then every 2.5 to 4 cm; massage and use a fine-tooth comb to remove excess. Do not saturate, do not rinse. Blow-dry: use medium heat and a vented or paddle brush until 75-80% dry, then use a round or square thermal brush with tension until 100% dry (medium or cool heat).
